Okay guys... See the quilt below! I've got 1/2 of my stash out trying to find border fabrics for this quilt. It's just not working for me..NOTHING is working for me!
I don't have enough of the green setting print to do anything more than bind the quilt. I have lots of the pink. But the pink is too light for an outer border, and there is too MUCH pink if I border it with pink.
I've tried alternate fabrics from green to brown to burgundy, NOTHING looks right.
Is this one of those old timey quilts that just doesn't need a border? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I think it would look perfectly fine without a border. That would be better than a border that you are not happy with.

ReplyDeleteDefinately NOT pink! If you just have to add a border I'd try to find a green in a shade or 2 darker than the one in your setting squares. But really it doesn't need a border at all. Just bind it and call it done!
ReplyDeleteI agree, it looks just fine as is. It is hard to imagine a border that would improve it.
ReplyDeleteI think it would look good with just a wide binding. I like that look alot with the older type paterns and escpecially with scrappy. Anything you do is going to be great.

ReplyDeleteI think the quilt is trying to tell you something - that it likes itself just the way it is. Otherwise it would play nice with one of your fabrics because I know you have lots and lots of potential borders. It's saying "Leave me be!" and trying to get you to listen.
ReplyDeleteNope, doesn't need a border. I've finally gotten over the "every quilt needs a border" mentality. I think it's perfect just the way it is!

ReplyDeleteI vote for no border, I like borderless quilts. Could have something to do with the fact that I hate putting borders on quilts :)

ReplyDeleteYou hit the nail on the head...it's an old timey quilt and those ladies would not have had fabric for a border...my vote is leave it be. Just binding.
ReplyDeleteI agree with everyone else. Sometimes borders just aren't gonna happen and that's okay too. Bind it and move on to something else!
ReplyDeleteI'd go for a thin pink border the size of your individual squares in the four-patches, then a piano key border using any fabrics left from the four-patches or similar then another thin pink to match the first and finally bind in the green. Personally I don't think a quilt looks finished off without a border - almost like a larger quilt cut down because the edges frayed.
